Green Room

Overall Rating: 4/5

April 29, 2016
Dir. Jeremy Saulnier
Rated R (for strong brutal graphic violence, gory images, language and some drug content)

As is typical of most thrillers and horror films, this is certainly one that is best to know as little about as possible before viewing–so I’ll try to be brief.

Director Jeremy Saulnier does a great job of setting this film up and building the tension…and then maintaining…and maintaining…and making sure that all the while, you are entertained, shocked, and enthralled. This is a film that feels like an involved experience. A rare and fervent sense of gritty realism is felt from beginning to end as the events unfold.

The whole cast does a good job of acting and it’s even surprising at moments just how extreme these performances get, but the acting job by Patrick Stewart takes the cake. It’s a calculated and chilling performance that helps this film slip uncomfortably beneath your skin.

Watch this one at night and with a group, but know that it is not for the faint of heart.

4/5
