Hail, Caesar!

Overall Rating: 3/5

February 5, 2016
Dir. Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Rated PG-13 (for some suggestive content and smoking)

The Coen brothers have crafted something pretty unique in this film, and it’s just as entertaining as the rest of their work. Extreme attention to detail and a quirky sense of humor are this film’s strengths.

Having said that, I think this is probably my least favorite film by the Coen brothers. The best reason for this that I can give, without ruining anything, is that this film feels as if it was more of a pet project than their other films. Its lack of commercial success could be evidence of this. For better or worse, the audiences that will enjoy this film the most are part of a niche. You may belong to this niche if you enjoy dark and quirky humor and/or old Hollywood.

Outrageous and bold as always, the Coens have produced an above-average comedy in Hail, Caesar! that is probably their funniest and most minor work to date.
